The Eco-Friendly Edit by Emma

With World Earth Day fast approaching and after speaking to my wonderful podcast guest Anna Jones, it’s undeniable that sustainability is becoming increasingly important. While lockdown was beneficial for the planet with less travelling and more local produce, it’s important that when life eventually returns to normal that our world does not return to business-as-usual. To help you do your bit, here are my favourite brands trying to reduce their impact on the planet and help the world for the better.

People Tree

Sustainable fashion pioneer and leader People Tree is a great ethical brand and one of my favourites. Founded by award-winning social entrepreneur Safia Minney, People Tree is a sustainable Fair Trade fashion brand. The brand promotes organic farming and uses organically produced cotton, Tencel, denim, wool, and linen.

Stay Wild Swim

If you’re looking to add to your capsule wardrobe, this is the right place. Stay Wild is a London-based swim brand founded by Natalie Glaze and Zanna Van Dijk. Designed to be flattering, feminine and functional. The perfect addition to your holiday wardrobe.

Ernest Leoty

Sustainable style is at the heart of Ernest Leoty. It produces only small batches, focusing on long-lasting products. Materials include recycled bi-elastic RenewPrime, recycled polyamide yarns. They are taking the initiative to reduce their environmental impact with more sustainable activewear. So, suit yourself up for summer fitness and reduce your clothing’s impact on the planet at the same time.

BIO-D

Eco-friendly or green cleaning is seeing a huge rise in interest as more of us are challenging the old mainstream brands that relied on single use plastic and man-made chemicals. Bio-D are a small family business who created a range of cleaning products that are good for the planet but also affordable. You can also purchase many of their products in bulk, up to 15L.

SAFELY

Yes so this brand may be celebrity endorsed but none the less it ticks the box for me in terms of being stylish, cool and good ingredients. It's a lovely change in my cleaning cupboard as they are all plant powered cleaning products. I just ordered the entire range - and love the whole chic colour and the fact its not millions of products.

Yala Jewellery

Yala Jewellery offers the chance to own beautiful African-inspired modern jewellery that creates financial opportunities for artisans working in the informal sector in Kenya. These Lela three-way earrings offer three earring styles in one – they can be worn as simple circle studs, as a stud and half-moon combo.

All Yala’s materials are recycled, re-used or reclaimed. These earrings are recycled brass made by Yala Jewellery’s brass artisan, George, and his team in their workshop just outside of Nairobi.

Honest

Honest are focused on ingredient and material innovations that prioritise plant-based formulas and sustainable consumption for a lighter environmental footprint. From growing practices to their use of renewable raw materials, they prioritise natural resources which can be regenerated at about the same rate at which they’re consumed.
